The introduction of DeepSeek, a low-cost artificial intelligence model developed by a Chinese company, has heightened market interest in edge AI. Industrial computer manufacturer Advantech is actively investing in the development of edge AI devices, with order growth continuing. On February 7, the company announced its consolidated revenue for January, reaching approximately NT$5.733 billion (US$175.02 million), reflecting a 6.96% month-over-month increase and a 14.91% year-over-year growth.
Edge AI involves running artificial intelligence models directly on edge devices instead of relying on cloud servers for data processing. This approach minimizes latency, improves response speed, and reduces network bandwidth requirements.
According to a press release from Advantech, the company saw the strongest growth in January across North America, Europe, and other emerging markets, with year-over-year increases of 24%, 23%, and 55%, respectively. The Japanese market recorded single-digit year-over-year growth. Meanwhile, the Chinese and Taiwanese markets experienced double-digit declines due to fewer working days (Chinese New Year) in January.
In January, Advantech’s business groups showed varied performance, with the Intelligent Services Group leading growth at 42% year-over-year, driven primarily by the benefits of the AURES (a POS hardware provider) acquisition and a recovery in medical project shipments. The Intelligent Systems Group grew by 20% year-over-year, while the Embedded Design Group posted single-digit growth. Meanwhile, the IoT Automation Group saw a slight decline compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, industrial computer manufacturer APLEX announced its consolidated revenue for January at approximately NT$67.01 million (US$2.05 million), reflecting an 11.4% month-over-month decline but a 0.7% year-over-year increase.
APLEX noted that the industry is undergoing a moderate recovery. As uncertainties in the global political and economic landscape gradually ease and customer hesitancy diminishes, the market outlook is expected to become clearer after March. The company remains optimistic that its operations will return to a growth trajectory and improve quarter by quarter.
