Industrial computer manufacturer Advantech anticipates a booming edge AI market. Chairman KC Liu highlighted that AI’s rapid evolution is accelerating the advancement of edge computing. In particular, the emergence of DeepSeek, with its open-source and low-cost nature, has further expedited AI’s shift from the cloud to the edge.
Liu predicts that by the second half of this year, AI will see widespread adoption across various industries, driving the rise of industry-specific clouds. As AI continues to expand across all sectors, Advantech’s business units could grow considerably in the coming years.
Last
year, Advantech's edge AI business share surged from 4% to 9%, and the
company optimistically projects it will exceed 15% this year and surpass
20% next year. Miller Chang (張家豪), President of Advantech’s Embedded IoT Group, noted that demand for AI integration in edge computing continues to rise. Previously,
AI was merely an optional feature, but it is now becoming a standard
configuration, with AI being integrated into all products.
On March 5, Advantech held an investor conference to share its market outlook and insights. Eric Chen (陳清熙),
General Manager of Corporate Management and CFO of Advantech, stated
that order momentum has been gradually recovering heading into 2025. The
B/B ratio in regional markets has rebounded above 1, and with the
continued expansion of Edge AI deployment, Advantech expects steady
growth this year, officially overcoming last year’s negative growth.
Miller Chang also shared that Advantech's Edge Computing Platform holds a strong market share across various industries. The company continues to drive innovation by developing Edge AI acceleration modules, industry-specific Edge AI application systems, large-scale Edge AI language training systems, and Edge AI servers. Additionally, Advantech provides the integrated AI software platform tool, Edge AI SDK, to accelerate the adoption of edge AI.
He further noted that Advantech has also been investing in humanoid robots, providing AI modules and machine vision products. The company has made significant progress in applications ranging from robotic arms in factories to autonomous and service robots across various industries, as well as in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
KC Liu stated that Advantech will launch a new brand strategy in 2025—"Edge Computing & WISE-Edge in Action." Moving
forward, the company aims to gain deeper insights into customer needs
and help transform Edge Computing into a competitive advantage for its
clients.
Liu is highly optimistic about the explosive growth of the edge AI market. Citing a report from research firm Gartner, he noted that the market size is projected to grow from US$ 131 billion in 2023 to US$ 511 billion in 2033, marking a fourfold increase over the next decade. However, he believes the actual growth could be even greater due to the rapid evolution of AI.
He
also emphasized that the past two months alone have seen drastic
changes. At the end of 2023, ChatGPT dominated the landscape, but with
the emergence of DeepSeek this year, numerous large language models have
been released. He personally uses not only ChatGPT and DeepSeek, but
also xAI’s Grok, consulting all three AI models whenever he has a
question.
Moreover, KC Liu strongly disagrees with the notion that today’s AI is simply "serious nonsense." He pointed out that AI now delivers highly intelligent and well-crafted responses to even the most complex questions. With its open-source and low-cost nature, the widespread adoption of AI is becoming increasingly evident. He predicts that by the second half of this year, AI will rapidly penetrate various industry applications.
